One person was killed and at least 11 people went missing after an overcrowded boat was caught in a whirlpool and capsized in Burhi Gandak river in the district on Wednesday.
Mushairi Block Development Officer Manish Sharma said flood-affected residents of Aatharaghat village were going to the nearby market for purchasing daily necessities and procuring fodder for their cattle when the boat, carrying 12 people, sank.
While one person was fished out by the locals, others were missing, he said.
Efforts were on to trace them with the help of locals.
The body of the person which was fished out by the locals was yet to be identified, the BDO said.
Four persons were feared dead when another overcrowded boat had capsized in Sitamarhi district of the state on Tuesday.
