Jaber has been arrested for his alleged links with the banned SIMI and sharing material with SIMI head Safdar Nagori.

"We have arrested Jaber for his role in the Gopalpuram conspiracy case and also for having SIMI links and sharing some material with SIMI head Safdar Nagori, who had come Hyderabad in 2007," Prasada Rao told reporters in Hyderabad.

Jaber, son of Moulana Naseeruddin, is a Hyderabad resident. Naseeruddin is an accused in the assassination of former Gujarat Home Minister Haren Pandya and is now in Sabarmati jail in Gujarat.

Jaber was arrested on Monday from a location in the city, the Police Commissioner said.

Police will further interrogate Jaber to find out if he has any role in terror activities, Prasada Rao said, adding that he has been sent to judicial custoday on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, police sources said that investigations were on to check if Jaber was in any way associated with Mufti Abu Basher, alleged mastermind of the July 26 Ahmedabad blasts.

The city police had recently raided the residence of Moulana in Saidabad in Hyderabad to look for Jaber and reportedly recovered several CDs containing highly provocative speeches made by SIMI head Safdar Nagori.
