Later, he claimed insurance for the vehicle on the basis of the police report. Police have also seized two vehicles from him.

Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch sleuths raided a house in Shristhi Colony, Bangarda, and arrested Ranjan alias Rajendra son of Tribhuvan Gupta. They seized a Maruti car (MP-09-HE-3350) and a motorcycle (MP-09-LA-6154), which were parked in some other building.

The accused had lodged a report at the Pithampur police station about the theft of the car about a year back. Similarly, a report of the motorcycle’s theft had been lodged at the Aerodrome police station a couple of years back. He had received approximately Rs 2 lakh from the insurance companies for these vehicles.

After lodging the report, he gave the vehicles to his friends. One of them had even gone to Shridi in the Maruti car after changing the number plate.

Police believe that his friends, to whom he gave the vehicles, might also be involved in the crime and that Ranjan may be part of a bigger gang. Some of his accomplices are in Ujjain and police are looking for them.
