A senior police official told, one Radhakrishnan (46), a Sri Lankan Tamil, had allegedly sent a letter to the Inspector of Police, Anti-Hijack Unit, Airport, Tiruchirapalli stating that a "human bomb" would blow himself either in a Sri Lankan passenger aircraft or at the Tiruchirapalli Airport complex.

One Subash Jayaraj Velayudham, fixed with a bomb wrapped on his body, would arrive at Tiruchirapalli from Sri Lanka by Colombo-Trichy flight, the letter said.

The police official said the letter was posted from Aranthangi in Pudukkottai district.

Meanwhile, Radhakrishnan told the police that he had sent the letter to take revenge on his relative Subash, with whom he had some dispute.

However, Subash did not arrive from Colombo as stated in the letter.

Following the receipt of the letter on Saturday, a high alert was sounded on the airport. Sleuths of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) conducted a thorough search in the airport complex, but nothing was found, the official added.
