A student was arrested in Ujjain on Sunday in connection with the death of professor HS Sabharwal after being manhandled during a row over student union polls even as one of the teacher's former colleagues died of "shock".
Protesting the alleged involvement of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad members in the manhandling of Sabharwal, the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress, has called a bandh in Ujjain on Monday.
Police said Sudhir Yadav, believed to be a member of AVBP, was arrested for allegedly manhandling and throwing mud at Sabharwal and two of his colleagues on Saturday after they cancelled the student polls at Madhav College following charges of irregularities.
Sabharwal, who was supervising the polls, died after complaining of uneasiness shortly after being mobbed and pushed by unruly students. The professor had recently undergone a bypass surgery.
Sachin Upadhyay, 61, a former principal of Madhav College who was "upset" over the attack on Sabharwal and in shock since the incident, suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday morning, Upadhyay's family said.
A magisterial probe has been ordered into the attack on the professors while three cases were registered by police.

{{/usCountry}}The Congress has called for a ban on the ABVP for its alleged involvement in the incident, and sought a CBI probe into the matter and action against officials who allegedly failed to prevent the attack.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan refuted allegations that the police was sheltering ABVP workers. Speaking to reporters in Bhopal, he condemned the incident and promised action against those found guilty.
