This is some news that’s going to infuriate wives and girlfriends. A British study says that one in four men regularly dream about their former girlfriend, while women dream about their current partners. And surprisingly, the men, the study by Premier Inn talks about, are those who are happy and satisfied in their present relationship.
Dr Pulkit Sharma, clinical psychologist, VIMAHNS, attributes the difference in dream pattern of a man and woman to gender differences. “Men by nature have a richer fantasy world of romance and sex as compared to women,” he says. And even male narcissism and ego has a role to play in it. “Men’s ego tend to get more hurt than women’s when they are dumped. They often find themselves fantasising about getting the woman back in their life,” he says.
But relax, all this may not necessarily mean that the guy is going to touch base with his former lover or try to win her back. “Merely dreaming about his past affair doesn’t mean that he will connect to his ex in real life, unless he happens to bump into her or is unhappy in his present relationship,” says psychiatrists Dr Avdesh Sharma.
