Satnam Singh, 40, died in the blast while his wife and son were injured. His son's condition was stated to be serious.

Residents of the locality in Salem Tabri in Ludhiana told the police that the deceased and his family members were illegally making fire crackers.

The explosive raw material of the crackers caught fire, causing a gas cylinder kept nearby to explode. The impact of the blast was such that a portion of the roof collapsed while the entire room was extensively damaged.

Police officials said they were investigating the case and trying to identify other houses in the area where fire crackers were possibly being illegally manufactured.
