The explosion also took place minutes after KN Suharwardy, the National Conference candidate for Udhampur constituency, of which Doda district is a part of, passed the area, official sources said.

The grenade missed its target and exploded outside the gate of a hospital around 1140 hours (local time) injuring 14 people, including four policemen and assistant information officer of Doda Abdul Majeed, official sources said.

Majeed died on way to hospital where the other injured were admitted. The condition of three injured was stated to be critical.

Tight security was in place in the area in view of Monday's elections to Udhampur constituency.

Earlier, two unidentified militants were killed in encounters in Poonch and Rajouri districts where one civilian was injured by terrorists since Saturday night, official sources said on Sunday.

Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter sites, the sources said.
