Preliminary reports suggest that a clash broke out near Gagran, the same area where the four youth were killed, between protesters and security forces when angry protesters assembled outside a security forces camp. Of the four injured, three were critical and admitted to a local hospital.

Police had to use heavy tear smoke shelling and aerial firing, which was still on till late evening, to bring the situation under control.

Locals have identified the youth killed as Mohammad Rafiq Rather, a resident of Shopian's Bonasaidpora area.

Eyewitnesses alleged that Rather was hit by bullets fired by the security forces directly. He succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.

Panic gripped the whole area again and clashes were still on at the time of filing the report.

The police have refused to comment on the killing immediately.
