Samad Khan, a resident of Beed district of Marathwada, was arrested at Manmad on Tuesday night and was produced before a MCOCA court, that has remanded him to police custody till July 10, police said.

According to ATS chief KP Raghuvanshi, Samad is suspected to have gone to Bangladesh recently, where he met Jaibuddin Ansari, the prime absconding accused in the case.

Jaibuddin, who is suspected to be the brain behind transport of the huge arms and explosives cache later seized by police, had reportedly offered Samad to return back to India along with a large amount of cash for the LeT operations here, the ATS chief said.

However, Samad developed cold feet with the idea of carrying the money to India, and escaped from Bangladesh on some pretext, he said.

ATS seized 16 AK-47 rifles and 43 kgs RDX in Aurangabad, Manmad and adjoining areas in May this year. The arms and explosives were being transported to some safe place before they were to be used for subversive acts, the ATS probe so far has revealed.
