A forged letter, purportedly written by Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, took the Player’s Building, the headquarters of Delhi government, by storm on Wednesday.
The letter asked Dikshit to take action against an officer posted as ADM in east Delhi as he was alleged to be a sympathiser of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). A section of the media was misled and even went ahead with publishing the contents of the letter.
The letter mischievously referred to the action that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati took against some officials for being Congress sympathisers. On reading the news, Dikshit is learnt to have met Shinde to clear the controversy. The Union Power Minister reportedly told the Delhi CM he never wrote the letter in the first place. He apparently told Dikshit he was not even present in Delhi on February 1 when the letter was supposedly written.
Officials in the Chief Minister’s Office told HT they never received the original copy of the letter. “We only received a faxed copy and no follow-up was done as it looked doubtful,” said an official in the CMO.

{{/usCountry}}The Association of officers of the Delhi and Andaman and Nicobar Islands Civil Service (DANICS) say they were now exploring the possibility of taking legal action, including lodging a FIR against unidentified persons who forged the letter and maligned a particular officer.
