AT WARD number 76 of Sooter Ganj area in Gwaltoli area there were about 2500 voters who had the privilege to cast their votes twice. The reason: Due to the negligence of poll officials, a large number of names made their way to the same voter’s list twice with different serial numbers.

Interestingly, even the district administration did not identify the mistake and these voters were able to cast their votes at separate polling booths.
The voter list of sector number 1146 (polling centre Hudsun Memorial Junior High School, Civil lines) is in the possession of the Hindustan Times. It clearly shows that there were about 1154 voters on the list but due to repetition of name it has swelled to 2300.
Talking to Hindustan Times, one of the Independent candidates from the constituency admitted that names of voters had been repeated on the same list. He alleged that the issue had been raised with the presiding officer but he did not pay heed to his complaint.
He alleged a senior leader of the State’s ruling party polling norms had been twisted.
