ONGC orders probe into football payoffs

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd said in a statement issued on Friday that it “has taken serious note of the contents of the news item appearing as top story on front page of August 7 HT Delhi edition under the headline ‘Footballers pay to play for top oil company’.

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd said in a statement issued on Friday that it “has taken serious note of the contents of the news item appearing as top story on front page of August 7 HT Delhi edition under the headline ‘Footballers pay to play for top oil company’. The management of the company has already instituted a fact-finding enquiry into the incident reported of unethical conduct and malpractice on the part of the official”. It also said, “While doing so, the management also clarifies that it has 33,000 employees on its roll, and it is not feasible to vouch for or prevent misconduct by any of its employees. Based on the findings of the enquiry, appropriate action will be taken under Conduct, Discipline and Appeal Rule of ONGC.”
