“There are only 5-7 militants left in the Poonch district, but their movement on ground is not known or traceable,” said Shamsher Hussain, senior superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch.

“We are trying our best to nab them and prevent their consolidation, but for sure their number is not more than 7,” he added.

LoC in the Poonch district was favourite and favourable terrain for the militants to infiltrate to this side through Mandi, Mendhar, main Poonch, Balakot Sector.

This districts has some accessible mountain passes connecting to the Kashmir valley.

The militants would cross over from Pakistan into Poonch district and them move to Kashmir valley through these passes.

The infiltration routes in Kashmir valley are not so easy. They go inaccessible in winters when heavy snow closes all the routes.

In the recent incident on Wednesday night, 25 FIU of Pakistan opened fire on 2/4 GR of Kalas post near Nato base in Poonch district, to help the infiltrators to cross the LoC.
