IF YOU are getting jittery seeing every mosquito in your room and losing sleep over the growing number of dengue cases in the city, turn to Ayurveda. The ancient science of Ayurveda has once again stepped in to protect you from Aedes aegypti mosquito and its deadly bite, causing dengue.

All you have to do is to follow three simple procedures as suggested in the Ayurveda and keep away 'Dandak Jwar' or dengue.
Every day fumigate the rooms with dry Neem leaves. Let the smoke remain in the room for few minutes before you turn on fan. Also boil Neem leaves and apply its water on body to avoid mosquito biting during the day as well as night.
The Neem water will also protect you from several skin infections.
"Start taking Pipli powder, easily available in the market. The Pipli powder raises immunity level, thus reducing chances of catching the viral infection. Also start taking Tulsi or Basil leaves. The juice of Basil leaves is 'Katu' and 'Tikt'. It's active ingredients are hot which do not allow virus to grow in the body," said Ayurvedacharya Dr SK Rai.
Dr Rai said that Tulsi causes the body to perspire, which leaves a lot of salt on the upper layer of the skin. The mosquito would not bite on the skin which has perspired. "Exactly for the same reason, the people from the lower economic group and labour class did not fall sick due to dengue. Due to excess physical labour, they perspire a lot which leaves a lot of salt on their skin," he pointed out.

Since dengue is a viral infection, it affects the seven dhatu in the body and upsets the digestive system. So, the food taken during this period should be light and less oily, he added.
"One should also not ignore the symptoms of dengue like high fever and headache and immediately consult the doctor," he warned.
