If a certain Pakistani couple based in Birmingham is getting the heebie-jeebies because of the company their son dotes on, they should know they have many sympathisers in the subcontinent. While the son, Beverly Hills paparazzo Adnan Ghalib, sings Papa don’t preach, as he attains celebrity status for being popstar Britney Spears’ toyboy, gossip columnists clearly cannot appreciate the dalliance either, fearing that Ms Spears may be making her biggest mistake yet.
That is saying something, considering that the former pop diva seems to always end up with a run-in with herself. From her marriages to her battles for the custody of her children, from depression to rehabilitation, from being a demure liplocked, gyrating machine to a celebrity who lost the way, Ms Spears seems now to have lost the plot. So that makes it the World vs the Britney Spears-Adnan Ghalib union. Ms Spears wants to “convert to Islam and move to Pakistan”. This can indeed be disquieting for the family of the much-married Mr Ghalib. Imran Khan-Jemima Goldsmith may have been the Star Couple and not faced half the derision that Ms Spears is currently facing. But then Ms Khan was not to be scoffed at and neither should Ms Spears.
