The discovery of a skeleton, said to be of a woman, from a septic tank from the official residence of Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Sarkar recently, continues to haunt the Left Front Government in the state, with the Opposition demanding that Sarkar resign from his post.
Not satisfied with the state Government ordering CBI inquiry into the incident, the Opposition Youth Congress on Friday took to the streets of Agartala to protest on the issue. Municipality workers fished out the skeletal remains on last Tuesday from a septic tank in the staff quarters of the Chief Minister's official residence on Mantribari Road in Agartala.
Tripura Forensic Laboratory head HK Tiwari has meanwhile said that the gender of the deceased could not be identified without a DNA test and the laboratory did not have the facilities to conduct such a test. The state Government has now decided to send the remains to laboratories in Hyderabad and Kolkata for DNA testing.
The incident has created great sensation in Tripura with new speculation that the skeletal remains could be of a woman, who was raped and later killed. A plastic bangle was found on the arm of the deceased.
The state police, for their part, are investigating security personnel, who have been deployed at the Chief Minister's residence since 1990, when the quarters were built. Sarkar moved into the residence in 1998.
