As the house met, opposition members demanded a discussion on the issue in place of the question hour.

The protesting legislators belonged to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and Communist Party of India (CPI).

Speaker R Avudaiappan did not allow the discussion, resulting in more commotion.

Upset that his pleas for silence were being ignored, the speaker ordered the watch and ward staff to send out the protesting members.
