Orissa dancers captivate

IT WAS Orissa’s evening on Saturday in the Bharat Bhavan silver jubilee celebration function. The evening witnessed two Oriya dance performances — Gotipua and Odissi —from the artistes of Orissa.

The evening started with ‘Gotipua’, the world-famous dance by the folk artistes of Orissa consisting a group of seven children of 5 to 12 years age group. It captivated the audience in the open-air auditorium of Bharat Bhavan.

In their enthralling performance, the child artistes depicted different poses of Lord Shiva and his ardhangini Parvati. The Gotipua recital started with the Mangalacharan followed by Pallavi and Batu dance. The Gotipua ended with the recital of Bandh dance.

Later, the world-renowned Odissi dancer, Guru Navkishore Mishra, and his group of Avarta Sanstha, Bhubaneswar, gave their performance at the Antarang auditorium of Bharat Bhavan. The group presented three marvelous dance items.
Some foreign tourists were also present at the function and they appeared to be thoroughly enjoying the dance performance by Oriya artistes.

Meanwhile, people are enjoying Kala Mela also, where a variety of arts are on display. On the sixth day of Kala Mela, artistes of Gujarat would present famous Garba and Dangi dance on Sunday, which is scheduled at 6 pm.
