"I have already asked the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) to probe into the matter. We are surprised how JMM's name could figure in the list of problem-makers for the country," state higher education minister DP Mishra told reporters in Bhubaneswar.

The action came after angry JMM activists staged protests on Wednesday and demanded unconditional apology from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the "mistake".

In Page 127 of the book 'Prayogika Oriya Bhasa' (Applied Oriya Language), published by the Bureau of Text Book Preparation and Production, JMM was categorised with extremist organisations like ULFA and CPI (Maoist).

It also mentioned that such organisations, functioning at the instances of political leaders, cause problems for the country.

"The portion describing leader's support to such groups will also be deleted," the minister said, adding the CHSE syllabus committee, in its emergency meeting today, has decided to go into details of the lapses committed in the book.

Though, the book was in the course curriculum since 2006, none could notice it till the son of a JMM leader, who studied in Orissa, came across the controversial content.
