A tribal body has sought a report from the Orissa government on the alleged chopping of palms of six of the 12 tribals killed in Jajpur district police firing last week, an official said on Saturday.
The tribals were killed when police opened fire on about 500 protestors at the Kalinga Nagar industrial complex at Jajpur, 120 km from here. The tribals were protesting against constructions by the Tata Steel Company.
Five members of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribe had visited the spot to assess the situation and talked to the tribal families.
Kunwar Singh, who headed the team, said: "Families of the victims alleged that besides the palms, private parts of some of the dead bodies were also chopped off. We have sought a clarification from the state government on this and asked them to submit a report."
A state home department official said on Saturday: "The state government has received the letter from the commission and will submit a report soon."
