Google, the world's largest Internet search engine, is celebrating the 60th anniversary of India's independence with an opinion poll on its Orkut site, inviting users to express views on historic moments and achievements of the six decades.
According to a company statement in Bangalore on Tuesday, the poll aims at strengthening the values by creating a spirit of camaraderie and discussion on the historic occasion among users of different ages, cultures and communities.
"Orkut has become a forum where millions of Internet users connect, express themselves and communicate freely. We are proud to be associated with India's 60th Independence Day celebrations," Google India managing director Shailesh Rao said.
"As Orkut is associated with youthfulness and zeal, we hope its users will display the same energy and enthusiasm to express what they feel about the event," he said.
As the poll is meant to be fun, vibrant and spirited, users can respond to its queries by logging on to Orkut and checking the official blog where they will be directed to the communities hosting the poll. The poll can be accessed at www.en.blog.orkut.com.
