The alleged drug addicts who killed a 19-year-old computer teacher at Oshiwara on Friday have confessed to looting many people before this. Police are now checking to see if they have records at other police stations in the city.
Sachin Nandgawale, a resident of Behram Baugh at Jogeshwari, died after getting into a brawl with the accused identified as Prakash Jadhav (26), Puneet Gawda (17) and Sunil Karwar (19).
The three were arrested on Saturday for killing Nandgawale by hitting him on his head when one of his friends, Mahendra Maurya (20) went to an open space to relieve himself. Nandgawale interfered in the brawl between Maurya and the accused, who then killed him, and injured Maurya and witness Arun Yadav.
On Sunday, police presented them in court, where they were remanded to police custody until Friday. “Investigations reveal that apart from Jadhav, who has earlier been arrested for house breaking, the other two do not have police records.
R D Rupwate, senior police inspector at Oshiwara police station, said the three have confessed to looting cash and jewellery in the past to fund their drug habit. “We are now contacting other police stations to see if they’ve been arrested before this, or are wanted in other robberies,” said Rupwate.
