On Multilateral Organisations
CMP wishes to go along with the stance adopted by the former commerce minister late Murasoli Maran at Doha, of fully protecting the national interest of farmers in all WTO negotiations including in the area of intellectual property.
Recently, Commerce minister Kamal Nath's participation at the UNCTAD XI's Sao Paulo, Brazil meet, is a pointer in that direction. Teaming up with Brazil, India hopes to push forward developing countries cause towards unfair dumping and farm subsidies leveled by the developed countries to protect indigenous farm products.

UPA Government will use flexibility in WTO agreements to fully protect Indian agriculture and industry. The UPA Government will play a proactive role in strengthening the emerging solidarity of developing countries in the shape of G-20 in the WTO.
Multilateralism vs. Unilateralism
The Government insists on pursuing an independent foreign policy, keeping in mind its past traditions. It wishes to retain its sovereignty on policy matters and would like to remain non-aligned in its foreign policy. It further seeks to promote multi-polarity in world relations and oppose all attempts at unilateralism.
West Asia Ties:Pro-Palestine rhetoric
Traditional ties with West Asia to be given a fresh thrust. The UPA government reiterates India's decade-old commitment to the cause of the Palestinian people for a homeland of their own. And states that steps will be taken to withdraw Indian mercenaries from Iraq, while further recruitment for this purpose will be banned.
