Over 63,000 drought relief works in MP

Bhopal, May 28 (PTI) Over 10 lakh persons are getting employment through more than 63,000 relief and employment-oriented works in Madhya Pradesh.

The state government has given top priority to drought relief works and drinking water arrangements, an official release said here today.

Action plans for ensuring adequate drinking water supply in rural and urban areas are being implemented on a massive scale and collectors and civic bodies have been asked to efficiently spend funds on drinking water arrangements and drought relief works as there is no dearth of funds.

Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, along with leader of all political parties, is reviewing the drought situation and an all-party committees have been set up in all drought-hit districts for regular review of drought situation.

In last two-three months, direct dialogues are being held with collectors through tele-conferencing and necessary instructions are being given to them on suggestions by various political parties.

The Urban Administration and Development Department is also implementing a Rs 63.74 crore action plan to fight out the water problem and so far a sum of Rs 11.51 crore has been allotted to 203 urban bodies to overcome water crisis.
