Addressing reporters in Pondicherry, Kannan wondered why the government had not succeeded in passing the Goondas act steps for which was initiated by him when he was home minister of Pondicherry.

Demanding revamping of the police force in the union territory, he said a section of the police was siding the criminals who were allegedly involved in land grabbing activities.

Kannan said he would meet the Inspector General of police UK Katna and bring to his notice the 'deteriorating law and order' situation. If necessary he would meet the Lt Governor, he said.

He said the law and order situation in Pondicherry was bad and cited the March 26 incident when a person who took refuge in the Mudaliarpet police station was killed in a case of inter group rivalry in broad daylight.
