Paes in quarters of Cincinnati Open

Paes teamed up with Damm of Czech Republic to advance to quarters while Bhupathi and his American partner Gimelstob were ousted in second round.

Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi met with contrasting results alongside their respective partners in the men's doubles event of the US$ 2.45 million Cincinnati Open tennis tournament at Ohio, USA.

Paes teamed up with Martin Damm of Czech Republic to advanced to the quarter-finals while Bhupathi and his American partner Justin Gimelstob were ousted in the second round of the elite tournament on Wednesday.

Paes-Damm, seeded seventh, defeated their unseeded opponents Lukas Dlouhy and Pavel Vizner of Czech Republic 6-3, 6-3.

The Australian Open finallists, with 21-13 win-loss record this season, will now face Mark Knowles of Bahamas and Daniel Nestor of Canada for a place in the semifinals en route to their maiden ATP Masters Series shield.

In the other match, Bhupathi and Gimelstob lost to sixth seeds Jonathan Erlich of Argentina and Andy Ram of Israel in three sets 6-7 (1/7) 7-5 4-10.

The 'Indian Express' of Paes and Bhupathi had won the title in 2001.
