MAIN ACCUSED in Mehar murder case Sachin Pahadi continues to give police nightmares.
The magnitude of the fear psychosis can be gauged from the fact that now cops don’t want to get posting at Hazratganj police station for fear of transfer or suspension.
Reason: Two station house officers (SHOs), four sub-inspectors (S-Is) and a deputy SP have either been placed under suspension or shunted out from field duty as they failed to trace Pahadi.
Significantly, the erstwhile SHO Hazratganj DK Rai was suspended merely two hours before he received a letter from SP (East) on April 22 stating about formation of a special team for the arrest of Pahadi. The team led by CO Hazratganj GS Chaurasia included SHO Rai, three S-Is and two constables.
Before Rai could have contacted the CO to chalk out the plan he and the three S-Is in the team received SSP’s order about their suspension. One more S-I from crime branch too was suspended.
The victim Mehar Bhargava was shot at on February 28 at Dilip Pur Tower as she had objected to alleged eve teasing at her daughter-in-law. Referring lax policing in the area as the reason the SSP had then shunted the then SHO of the local police station Digvijay Singh and CO Hazratganj RN Singh the very next day of the incident.
Another inspector DK Rai was handed over the charge of SHO and was assigned the job to trace Pahadi. Rai arrested two of the accused Sonu Rawat and Sanjay Menon. Rawat confessed to having killed Mehar and the key witnesses—-Mehar’s daughter-in-law Kavita and her driver had even identified the same youth as the killer.

While the cops were initiating efforts to procure court order for the property attachment of Pahadi, SP (East) Rakesh Pradhan formed a team for the arrest of Pahadi. Pradhan issued a letter (dated—-April 18) intimating about the formation of special team comprising SHO DK Rai, S-Is SS Rathaur, Devesh Kumar Shukla and Satish Kumar Singh and constables Manoj Kumar Yadav and Shyam Shanker Mishra. CO Hazratganj Chaurasia was made leader of the team..
The copy of the letter was sent to SSP Ashutosh Pandey, SP Crime, CO Hazratganj and SHO Hazratganj. SHO DK Rai received the letter on April 22 but was placed under suspension.
