According to defence sources, Pakistan fired along forward posts in the Mandi sector, about 40 km from Poonch town, at about 10am on Tuesday. The firing was targeted at the 9029 forward post. The army fired back, which, according to sources, hit Bakri and NPP forward posts of Pakistan. The firing ceased at about 5am on Wednesday.

Though there has been no loss of life and property in Indian side, sources said, the same can't be ruled out across the border.

There have been 97 instances of ceasefire violation this year, which, the army said, is the highest in the past eight years, including 19 incidents reported this month.

A BSF jawan and a civilian were injured in Pak firing on Monday night. The jawan had resumed his duties.

Poonch district, which has a population of 5 lakh, has 118km border along the LoC and majority of its population lives close to the LoC. Maximum violations of ceasefire have been reported along the LoC in this district.
