A heavy exchange of fire took place in the sector, 50 km southeast of Jammu city, between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

A Border Security Force (BSF) spokesperson said Tuesday's firing was aimed at pushing in infiltrators. "The movement of eight to nine terrorists was noticed along the border. Pakistani Rangers began firing to facilitate their infiltration
attempt. After 10 hours of heavy firing, the terrorists were pushed back."

The home ministry has sought a report from the BSF on the infiltration attempt.

This was the third instance of firing along the international border and the Line of Control over the past five days. On December 19, Pakistani Rangers fired at BSF posts at Bobiya and Londi in the Hiranagar sector. Two days before that, firing was reported along the Line of Control in Poonch district's Krishna Ghati sector.

Inspector General A.K. Sarolia visited the spot on Tuesday morning.
