On the fourth consecutive day of firing, Pakistan on Sunday fired mortar shells along the international border in RS Pura sector in Jammu district. Residents are planning to temporarily vacate from the area if the firing continues.
According to BSF sources, Pak rangers started firing at about 1.30am and continued till 4am early Sunday morning. They fired at 12 border-out-posts (BoP) in the RS Pura sector. BSF retaliated strongly to the firing.
The villages of Gharna, Sai, Kaku-de- Kothey were hit by the firing. Mortar shells landed near homes and one ripped through the roof in Gharana village. Three heads of cattle were killed and six injured due to mortar shell blast in the villages.
Although there was relative calm on Sunday morning, people were scared of attending to their fields along the zero line. Locals who had hired labour from outside the state said that the labourers were not willing to work in the fields, which could greatly affect the output of the important cultivating season.
Voicing concern over repeated ceasefire violations, CM Omar Abdullah on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take up the issue with Pakistan. “I want the Prime Minister to talk to Pakistan authorities that it’s not right,” Omar said.
