Pakistan and NATO have inked an agreement to enhance cooperation in the fight against terrorism and Taliban.
The agreement was signed by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and top North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Commander in Afghanistan, Gen David Richards on Tuesday.
Richards praised Pakistan's role in the fight against terrorism but suggested that there should be an extended cooperation in this regard.
The Dawn newspaper quoted officials as saying that the British General, who is currently heading the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, had not come with proof of ISI's involvement in training or helping the Taliban, a complaint NATO commanders are reported to have made to their respective governments asking them step up pressure against Pakistan.
Richards reportedly said after meeting with Musharraf that the primary purpose of his visit was to thank the President, the government, the armed forces and security agencies of Pakistan for the excellent cooperation being extended in the fight against terrorism.
A vast majority of problems in Afghanistan emanated from within the country as the nation had remained highly unstable for over two decades, he added adding it was believed that Taliban activity was being funded through narcotics trade and other criminal activities.
Musharraf reiterated that Pakistan supported a strong, secure and stable Afghanistan, which was not only in the interest of both the countries but also for the entire region.
