The recent spate of injuries has prompted Pakistan Cricket Board to consider fielding separate Test and one-day cricket squads.
Pakistan go into the Test and one-day series against England without Shoaib Akhtar and Rana Naved-ul Hassan due to injuries while promising seamer Mohammad Asif was also in doubt for the first Test starting Thursday.
PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan said with international calendar packed, having different teams for the longer and shorter versions of the game might be the way to go in the future.
"It is an option that has come under consideration because of these latest injuries," Shaharyar said.
"These boys have been virtually playing non-stop cricket. To me that is the basic reason behind their fitness problems."
"When they are not playing Tests, then they are figuring in one-day matches and when they are not playing for Pakistan then some of them are playing for county teams."
"It is simply too much cricket. There is simply no time for proper rest," he said.
Shaharyar said if Pakistan decided against having two teams, then they would certainly implement a strict rotation policy.
"We would rest two or three of our players each time Pakistan play in a Test series or an international tournament. That would give the players an opportunity to avoid any burnout," he concluded.
