Favouring opening of the Hussainiwala border, a Pakistani lawmaker has asked residents of this border town to take up the matter with New Delhi.
Chowdhary Manzoor Ahmed, an MP from Kasur, said this issue should be included in the agenda for next round of talks between the two neighbours.
Ahmed favoured opening of the border in a letter to Bhai Mardana Society President Harpal Singh Bhullar who was instrumental in release of several Punjabi youths languishing in Pakistani jails.
Ahmed said residents of Kasur were striving hard for opening of the Hussaniwala-Kasur border, which was closed in the aftermath of the 1971 Indo-Pak conflict.
Bhullar said in Ferozepur on Saturday that Ahmed was of the view that opening of the Kasur-Hussainiwala border would immensely benefit residents on both sides of the border.
The Hussainiwala-Kasur route used to be the lifeline of traders dealing in dry fruits, clothes, vegetables and fruits.
