Defence spokesperson Col RK Palta said Pakistan troops fired at the Hamirpur Battalion area in the BG sector, Poonch, on Monday night. They fired with small and automatic weapons, to which the army retaliated in a calibrated manner.

Pakistan had fired at the same forward posts on 9pm on Monday and stopped firing at about 4am on Tuesday. The Pak troops also fired in the Sabjian sector.

On Monday, a BSF jawan was injured in firing from the Pakistani side along the international border in the Samba area, nearly 50 km from Jammu city. The BSF had also fired back.

A BSF jawan, M Vasuraj, was guarding a post in the Katao area when he was hit by sniper fire. The jawan is hospitalised and his condition is stated to be critical.
