As India celebrated its 65th Republic Day on Sunday, Pakistani troops once again violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir.
Pakistani soldiers began unprovoked firing on Kaman post in Uri sector of north Kashmir. The firing lasted for around three hours but there were no casualties, the army said.
The Indian troops did not retaliate.
"At 6.15am today, Pakistani troops began firing unprovoked. They fired about three RPG rounds and small arms at the Kaman post on the Indian side," said Major General Anil Chauhan, General Officer Commanding, 19 Infantry Division.
He said the firing was apparently aimed at disrupting peace along the LoC.
"The firing was undertaken by those elements who are inimical to the interests and welfare of the people, cross-LoC trade and maintenance of peace along the LoC," he said.
This is the first ceasefire violation in Kashmir since the DGMO-level talks between India and Pakistan last month. The issue has been raised with Pakistan through hotline.
The 740-km LoC is essentially the military control line between India and Pakistani-controlled parts of Kashmir. It is not a legally recognised international boundary but a de facto border.
