“In their official response, the Pakistani authorities have admitted that elements in Pakistan were involved in the terrorist attacks on Mumbai. They are still in the process of investigating the attacks, and have taken certain actions including the arrest of some of those involved and filing a first information report. This is a positive development,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

“Pakistan has also sought further information and material relating to the investigation. The Indian government will examine the issues raised in the response and we will share whatever we can with Pakistan,” it said.

National Security Advisor MK Narayanan told HT that he could comment only after going through the documents. “Let me see the full text of the response. Let them send something in writing. They have been saying different things at different times. We will wait for the documents,” he said.

“However, the important thing is that they have still not said whether Pakistan’s official agencies had a role to play and what action will they be taking against organisations like the Laskhar-e-Tayyeba. The role of official agencies and action against terrorist organisations needs to be followed up,” Mansingh said.
