They have to keep watch on inmate Moninder Singh Pandher, awarded death in one Nithari serial killing case, to check any suicidal tendencies he may develop.

Jail hospital doctor Ashok Kumar Aggarwal said: “Pandher was expecting life imprisonment, so the death sentence shattered him. He was very tense after he returned from court on Friday and said he was unable to sleep. So I gave him sleeping pills. “

Jail superintendent V.K. Singh said: “On Thursday after being brought back from court Pandher said he had lost everything. On Friday he looked upset and depressed. When I asked him what was bothering him, he just said ‘Death’ and closed his eyes.

“When I told him he could appeal to the high court and later the Supreme Court, he said that though he had produced evidence of being abroad during the period of the crime, the judge awarded him the same sentence as co-accused Surendra Koli — death. At night he just had a chapatti with dal.”

“Koli, on the other hand, looks least perturbed. He mentally prepared himself for the death sentence months ago,” Singh added.
