The strike by executives of public sector undertakings of oil has started affecting LPG supply in Delhi and the National Capital Region. Distributors said the supply of cooking gas cylinders from filling plants has come down drastically.
According to Chandra Prakash, president, All India LPG Distributors Federation, only 70-75 LPG trucks reached Delhi on Thursday in comparison to the daily supply of 300-350 trucks.
“Though there is no immediate crisis of LPG cylinders since most users have two cylinders, there is definitely some panic among customers. The supply would definitely be affected if the strike continued for another 2-3 days. It will be the commercial establishments like restaurants and hotels because they don’t have the storage capacity,” said Chandra Prakash.
“We will have no choice but to buy domestic LPG cylinders at a premium to avoid crisis,” said a restaurant owner in Delhi on condition of anonymity.
The strike has lead to a panic among consumers and people have started queuing up for cylinders at gas agencies. “Though I have only used just 70 per cent of the cooking gas from the cylinder, I am still booking a fresh one,” said Deepak Khullar, a Shakarpur resident.
