With Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s deadline to the Gautam Budh Nagar administration to improve law and order in 15 days ending on Saturday, panic has set in the police ranks here.
The buzz is that heads may roll as state’s principal secretary (home) RM Shrivastav and director general of police (DGP) AC Sharma will begin a state-wide tour from June 2 to assess the improvement.
Review meetings will take place at divisional headquarters (Meerut, in case of Noida and Greater Noida) which will also be attended by ADG (prison) and ADG (prosecution), besides civil and police administration of cities concerned.
Yadav on May 18 told the senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Guatam Budh Nagar to improve the law and order situation in Noida and Greater Noida. The CM had also asked the district magistrate (DM) to speed up development projects and finish those stuck because of land acquisition and other issues. Both officers, along with other DMs and SSPs of the state met the CM as well as the state chief secretary Javed Usmani in Lucknow for a review meet.
The CS will review the progress made in terms of development projects and law and order situation once a month, while the CM will do the same with police and administrative heads of all districts once in three months. “The CM had told us to deal with goonda elements with iron hand. I have held meetings with police officials for speedy and effective execution of the plans. We’re on track,” said SSP Praveen Kumar.

{{/usCountry}}After the Samajwadi Party came to power in Uttar Pradesh two months ago, there have been a series of law and order issues and incidents of violence. In many of the cases, SP workers have been found involved. The CM told senior IPS and IAS officers, comprising DMs and SSPs of 75 districts of UP to shape up or ship out.
Focus areas:
The thrust is on controlling mafia activities in mining, liquor smuggling, human trafficking and circulation of fake currency. Instructions have already been issued to check fake registration of FIRs, atrocities on old people, children, minorities and weaker sections of the society. A drive would be lunched against land mafia.
