The official has reduced his visiting card to less than half the regular size in a bid to conserve paper. Measuring 5 x 3.3 cm, Shukla’s unapologetically utilitarian calling card bears just about enough space for the essential details, viz name, telephone numbers, e-mail id and the district administration logo. And, is made of recycled paper to boot.

Setting an example, which, if followed by government mandarins elsewhere, would help save reams of paper and prevent millions of trees from being felled. And, the benefits of a ‘dwarf’ card are not restricted to environmental aspects alone.

Today, when hundreds of visiting cards are exchanged everyday, each card needs a USP (unique selling proposition), the SDM points out. ‘‘The unusual size of my card makes it stand out among the clutter of cards,” points out Shukla, who has won many accolades for his adept stewardship of the City Bus Service.

The smaller dimensions, says the SDM, also allow him to carry more of the miniature cards than would be possible with a regular sized visiting card. “Apart, of course, from helping me do my bit for environmental conservation”.

“Me and Shrotriya ji (fellow SDM Vivek Shrotriya) decided to get the cards published at our own expense and opted for miniature cards to save paper.

Since then both of us have been using the miniature cards, which, I must say, never fail to attract attention,’’ he says with a grin.
