Papers forged for seminary takeover

The story behind the take-over of the 124-year-old seminary is no less scandalous than the way the Sunni Waqf Board appointed a SIMI friend to manage its vast properties. Believe it or not, the creme de la creme of the city used forged documents to turn the tides in their favour. Many big fishes could find themselves in serious trouble with the process already under way for the registration of an FIR.

Already this lobby has taken a hit after the State government overruled the Waqf Board on the appointment of the caretaker/ manager of the seminary.

Records in possession of Hindustan Times reveal several interesting points.

One such is regarding deposed caretaker Mohd Ismail Shareef's main rival Taj Khusro handing over the baton to him .

Khusro withdrew himself at a meeting held on Febuary 19, 2003 and it was attended by Maulana Abdul Suboor, Khadim Haji Mohd Sami. The agenda of the meeting submitted to the Registrar (societies and chits) for renewal of Shareef Shoora created, also carried signatures of Taj Khusro, Maulana Vakil, Haji Shaukat Ali and Haji Nasrullah. However, all of them deny having signed the document.

However, the serial numbers of certificates are self-explanatory as it’s not possible for the same person to die twice.

Besides, it is unlikely that only one person died in the city in the gap of two years. This document was endorsed by several memoranda of the meetings convened to condole the death of Maulana Haq.

This document was submitted with a view to get approval for the shoora formed by Shareef from the registrar office, as it hadn't been renewed for the last four years. The name of shoora members were: Mohd Ishaq, Qazi Noorus Salam, Irshad Mirza, Abdul Momin, Syed Shareef, Abdul Suboor, Haji Wasi, Waqarul Aim, Maulana Manzoor Mazahari Qari Elahi, Aminul Islam.

According to the constitution of seminary, there can only be 12 members in the shoora but Shareef’s had 15. On June 2 this year, Shareef forwarded an affidavit to the registrar apprising him that his shoora had been managing the seminary and he was the chairman thus this shoora be renewed.

It was this affidavit on which the Waqf Board appointed him as the mutawalli.
