CBI director Ranjit Sinha came down heavily on former coal secretary PC Parakh for "making comments on policy issues with his limited legal knowledge", in his book ‘Crusader or Conspirator-Coalgate and Other Truths’, released on Monday.

Parakh, an accused in the coal block scam, has made some sharp comments on CBI’s capability to probe the scam.

"His (Parakh’s) is a typical example of an accused arrogating to himself the roles of an investigator and a judge as well. In his book, he himself has admitted to having a limited knowledge of law," Sinha told HT.

Parakh wrote in his book, "About Talabira coal block, in which the CBI has filed an FIR against Kumar Mangalam Birla and me, I can say without hesitation that the CBI is either outright incompetent or is playing a deeper game." He further wrote, "I have not abused my office, Mr (Ranjit) Sinha.

You have — by accusing Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla and me of conspiracy and corruption. My recommendations were well within the boundaries of the declared government policy. But you have acted without proper understanding of facts."
