In a major relief to Millennium City residents, the much-awaited water treatment plant at Chandubudhera was finally made operational on Sunday by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda).
The supply boost comes after Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered the agency to submit an affidavit on September 7 about canal water augmentation in Gurgaon.
With the new plant, the Huda will now supply 54 mgd (million gallons per day) of canal water.
At present, the unit will treat 11 mgd and add to the 43 mgd being supplied from the existing plant at village Basai — the only STP for the entire city till date.
"In the next few days, the plant will run to its full capacity of 22 mgd," said Huda administrator Praveen Kumar, who inaugurated the facility after a pooja around noon on Sunday.
Once the unit becomes fully operational, a total of 65 mgd of treated water will be supplied to the city.
The new plant is connected to the Basai plant to supply channel water to new Gurgaon areas such as DLF City, Ardee City, Vatika and Sushant Lok, among others.
"We hope the Huda would now be able to supply adequate water," said TN Kaul, a resident of Ardee City, Sector 52, adding that the water crisis in the past five year has gone from bad to worse because the new plant had not been made operational despite several appeals.

{{/usCountry}}According to official sources, KK Jalan, irrigation secretary to the Haryana government, and SS Dhillon, town planning secretary, had a meeting in Gurgaon on Saturday after which raw water was immediately released into the NCR channel that feeds the new unit.
Though the Chandubudhera unit has a capacity of 110 mgd, it will be made operational in phases.
