The boy, Abiram, has been sent to a children's home. The incident occurred on Monday in nearby Mattancherry.

The boy's parents Kuni and Tilakraj tied him to a gate after stripping him and mercilessly beat him for an alleged theft of Rs 100 from his house, police said.

The police was informed by passerby who saw the boy being beaten up. The child was taken to the district social welfare department and later sent to the Jana Seva children's home at Aluva. He will be produced before a Juvenile court on April 11.

A case under the Juvenile Justice Act has been registered against the parents. Police are also verifying if Abiram is the couple's son.
