Pawar flags off his campaign

NCP presodent Sharad Pawar flags off his campaign in his new constitueny Mahda on Thursday. The leader ha staken up tall challenges including addressing 30 rallies in four days.

On a changed turf, Maratha strongman and NCP president Sharad Pawar flagged off his campaign with a changed strategy.

Unlike in the past, Pawar used to campaign in his hometown Baramati a day before polling date. At his new constituency Mahda, the leader flagged off his campaign on Thursday, almost one and half month before.

To clarify his stand, Pawar at a rally in Nandwal said, “Once campaign starts, I have to roam around the whole country and state and then I may not get time to come here. Therefore I have come to meet everyone now”.

While the constituency is being considered safe for Pawar, the leader isn’t taking any chances and has decided to tour the entire constituency and also address 30 rallies in four days. Two of Pawar’s associates — Vijaysinh Mohite-Patil and Ramraje Nimbalkar — will take charge of canvassing to manage the poll campaign in Madha.

Pawar clan originally hails from Nandwal, a hamlet of 3,500-odd population which falls in Satara district and is included in the Madha Lok Sabha constituency. Later Pawars’ shifted to Katewadi in Baramati.

Seeking the support from the region once represented by late Yashwantrao Chavan, Pawar said, “It is an honour for him”. Pawar was also a guardian minister for Solapur district, which now is a part of his Mahda constituency. Pawar's campaign started on the day when Maharashtra celebrated Chavan's birth anniversary.

Unlike Baramati, the region where Pawar is tasting poll waters is backward and faces various problems including water scarcity. Referring to problems being faced by people Pawar said, “he will develop the region with the help of all local leaders”.
