SEVERAL LOCALITIES are reeling under acute power crisis which has also resulted in scarcity of drinking water, for the past one week.

A meeting of former corporators was held here on Monday condemning the Power Corporation for unannounced power cuts in the city. In the absence of power supply, the residents were left to grapple with the problem of drinking water scarcity while officials concerned were in a slumber, they alleged. Former corporators Kamlesh Singh, Shiv Sewak Singh, Mohammed Muslim, Ajay Mehrotra, Prahlad Gupta, Dinesh Pasi and Ashok Kumar flayed the UPPCL deputy general manager for rostering and warned him to stop it immediately otherwise they would launch an agitation soon.
Meanwhile, even as ex-corporators flayed the UPPCL, power cuts continued in the city.
Many localities of the city were without power supply from 3.30 pm till 7.45 pm on Monday following a snag in the transmission line at Rewa road sub-station on the outskirts of the city. A power official said only one circuit was working while the other was under repair.
While this was the official version, consumers were forced to undergo harassment due to power failure. The problem was compounded by humid
conditions.
The situation under Tagore Town sub-station was bad. Consumers here had already suffered the agony of having stayed with no power for almost 24 hours since Sunday. However, they could get power on Monday after the circuit feeding them had been repaired. This was followed by cut off in the supply to nearly all the places which are fed by Minto Park sub-station.
Residents complained despite repeated requests, power officials had not been able to minimise frequent tripping of electricity in their areas,
This was mainly due to poor maintenance, they alleged. Allahpur is a classical example where power went off at least six times in the day.
