THE LARGE-SCALE disconnection drive launched by the UP Power Corporation has brought the municipal corporation and the power corporation department at loggerheads.
The power corporation department had snapped the connection of the municipal corporation and issued a list of outstanding payments totalling Rs 1.17 crore.
Assistant Municipal Commissioner Satyaprakash Pandey said such a situation has emerged due to the irresponsible attitude of power corporation officials.
Pandey said an amount of Rs 14 lakh was outstanding against Laldiggi park since last few years and the power corporation should have snapped its connection, but it is unfortunate that the power corporation has disconnected electricity supply of his department instead.
The power corporation department has also issued notice to Gorakhpur Development Authority for clearance of around Rs 22 lakh outstanding payment.
Deputy General Manager of power corporation PN Srivastav said department has constituted 100 teams to launch disconnection drive of the defaulters above Rs 10,000 and the disconnection drive will be intensified after November 6. The department has also issued recovery certificates (RC) to 30 consumers.
Responding to a question, Srivastav said in Gorakhpur 11 lakh units of power were consumed and during Diwali the consumption was doubled and the per day expenditure of the department to purchase power units was around Rs 60 lakh and the department is lagging behind in realisation of the outstanding payments.
Sources said department has prepared a list of 280 big defaulters in the city and has asked the police to launch the drive but since police personnel are engaged in election duty, the drive which was scheduled to be launched on November 1 has been delayed by a week.
