The activists clashed with the police, who had earlier resorted to light force. However, when the activists moved out on the main road, they were forced to employ water cannons and tear gas.

Earlier, the activists had gathered outside the party office at Gandhi Nagar, from where they moved outwards in the shape of a rally under the leadership of party's vice-president Tarlok Singh Bajwa and rural president Suram Singh Chib, besides other prominent leaders.

A large number of people from Marh and Damana also participated in the rally under the leadership of their Marh block president Vikram Singh Langeh.

Shouting slogans against the Omar Abdullah-led state coalition government, the activists demanded its immediate dismissal over failing to provide power and water to the people.

"The Omar-led government has failed on all fronts and should be dissolved immediately, otherwise the party will continue its protests against its government," he added.
