Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said his party would be contesting the Lok Sabha elections for giving voice to aspirations of the people of the state.
"We are contesting elections with an agenda to send credible representatives to the Parliament to effectively highlight peoples' issues at the highest forum of the democracy," Mufti said while addressing a public rally at Phinter, Billawar Assembly segment in Kathua district.
He said,"Unlike other political parties, the PDP is not confined to attain power, but it is a movement to change the destiny of the people."
The former chief minister urged the people to vote for the party candidates to accelerate change in the state.
The PDP is in direct contest with Ghulam Nabi Azad of the Congress party and Jitender Singh of the BJP. "Our fight is not against any individual, we are fighting on our own agenda," said Mufti.
Mufti said the formation of the PDP was a landmark in the political history of the state because this party has revived peoples' faith in the democratic institutions.
"Unlike other parts of the country, people of Jammu and Kashmir, for decades, were not allowed to get the taste of democracy, as the NC had never allowed democracy to flourish in the state," he added.
Mufti said it was the PDP that has challenged the hegemony of the NC and allowed the democracy to flourish here. He claimed peoples' support to the party was an indication that that there was no alternative to the PDP which would change the destiny of the people, by implementing its progressive and visionary agenda.

{{/usCountry}}"Credit goes to the PDP led regime that for the first time in 2002-when part had come to the power- treated all regions equally," he said. Mufti said it was after 2002, serious efforts were made to empower all regions to remove the sense of inequality and discrimination.
